Your appointment

However you choose to contact us we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email.

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

Evening access

A practice in the South Dartmoor and Totnes PCN area is open to see patients in booked appointments between 6pm and 8pm Monday to Thursday. To access the appointments please continue to contact us here at Ashburton Surgery.

Weekend Enhanced Access

We offer weekend appointments situated in two central hub locations:

  • Albany Surgery, Newton Abbot, TQ12 1GJ
  • Leatside Surgery, Totnes, TQ9 5JA

Please call us here at Ashburton Surgery to pre-book a weekend appointment: Saturdays: 8am to 6pm.

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Please tell us:

  • If there's a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond.
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email.
  • If you need an interpreter.
  • If you have any other access or communication needs.

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need. To request a home visit, it's helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible on 01364 652731. You can also:

  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday, when we are open

You can register with a GP surgery as a temporary patient for up to 3 months.

If you need medical help and are away from home, please contact your own GP first if possible.

We can only register you as a temporary patient in some situations:

  • If you have an urgent medical problem and cannot see your usual GP.
  • If your GP has already assessed your needs and advised you to contact us.
  • This applies to students as well as other visitors.

Please note:

  • If you are a visitor from abroad you cannot register as a temporary patient.
  • For routine care, prescriptions, or long term issue, please contact your GP.
